Simplify Your Life

You probably experience more stress than you need to, because your life is too complex. Today, we are bombarded with information from many sources, directly and indirectly. This makes your life very complicated, as you struggle with emails, papers, bills and people, worried in case you miss something. There are some strategies which can help you make your day run a little smoother.

Firstly, take time out to get organized. By taking the time to work out routine tasks, you can save yourself a lot of frustration. Here are a few ideas:

  • Simply mark off on the calendar when you have regular appointments, birthdays etc. Set up automatic payments with your bank to pay your bills, and pay them on time.
  • Give your possessions a regular place to live. For instance, how much time is spent searching for keys or spectacles? Always put items away in the same place, and you will gain hours over a year that would otherwise be spent looking for them.
  • Entrust other people with tasks that are time consuming, or that you don't like to do. Most of us are overworked and lacking spare time. There are probably many things that you can farm out to family members, such as picking up the dry-cleaning, or grocery shopping.
  • Always be on time for appointments, as this will help you keep to schedule and you will get a reputation for being dependable, and responsible. Mark out free time in your diary so you don't over commit.
  • List making can make a huge difference in the amount you can achieve, and will reduce the constant worry of trying to remember everything.  At the end of each working day, take the time to write out a list of the things you want to achieve tomorrow. Prioritize them so that you do the most important tasks first.
  • You will find it less stressful to complete one job at a time. Do the most important tasks first, but finish them before starting on the next one on the list.
  • Work out your meals and shopping list for the week. This will make it much easier for you when it is time to cook the evening meal. You will have the ingredients to hand, and it will also stop you picking up unhealthy takeaways.
  • Record any television programs that you enjoy, and then watch them when you have time. This will make life easier than dashing about because there is something on that you simply can't miss!
  • When difficult situations start to build, deal with them straight away, before they get so big that it takes a lot of time and effort to sort them out or put them right.
  • Finally, de-clutter your home and workspace. By tidying your living and working areas, you will not only be able to live more simply, but a neat home will give you peace of mind and allow you to relax.

There are many more actions you could take to simplify your life, but I hope these few suggestions will gain you a few more hours in your week and reduce your pressure.

How the Rich get Wealthy

A study was done quite a few years ago on the lifestyle of a group of rich men.  This was before it was common for women to obtain wealth in their own right, as many have today.  The men all had these things in common:

Most of them had lived in the same town all their life.
They owned a service business or a group of shops.
They lived in a nice neighborhood in a moderate house.
Their neighbors didn’t know that they were wealthy.
They were quite frugal in their spending, driving an older car and buying their suits on sale.
They had wives who were similar to themselves and were not big spenders.
They had been married to the same woman all their adult life.
Each year, at least twenty per cent of their income was invested in stocks or saving accounts.
They bought products that appreciated with time, such as art or antiques.
These men loved their work and worked hard, putting in at least a fifty or sixty hour week.
Their children didn’t know the extent of their wealth, and therefore they were financially independent and not reliant on handouts from their parents.

Interesting isn’t it.

Maybe we could take a few pointers from this study!

“Success in business requires training and discipline and hard work.  But if you’re not frightened by these things, the opportunities are just as great today as they ever were”.                                                                                       David Rockefeller

Are you a know-it-all?

I am sure you’re not, but you probably know someone who is!  If you have a tendency in that area, chances are that you don't have many friends! Generally know-it-alls’ are pretty egotistical people. They find it difficult to listen without interrupting. They want to be the centre of attention and to be the one that others listen too. Being natural ‘right fighters’ they can't understand why their lives are generally unhappy. As Dr Phil says, “do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?
When you fail to listen to others, you fail to learn anything new.
How do you feel when there is someone who takes over the conversation? When you give and take in a conversation, you derive much more satisfaction from your relationships.
Try saving some of your knowledge for future conversations. Allow others to have a different point of view. There is not always a ‘right answer’ sometimes several different viewpoints can all be right.
The right answer for one person could very well be the wrong answer for another. Practice being kind and allow others to think they are right sometimes, even if you don’t believe they are.  Don't assume that you do know-it-all as no-one possibly can!
